HEADQUARTERS
MIDDLETOWN AIR TECHNICAL SERVICE COMMAND
Office of the Commanding Officer
OLMSTEAD FIELD, MIDDLETOWN, PA
5 March 1946

Chairman, State Farm Products Show Commission,
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Dear Sir:

During the height of World War II it was obviously necessary to solicit aid from every available source in the way of manpower, materials and facilities with which to carry out the mission of the Army Air Forces.

During a rather critical period it became necessary to lease the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg and convert it for use as an airplane engine repair shop. It was not known at the time just how long this facility would be required because of the uncertainty of events in the war, but from facts available at the time it was vitally necessary that alterations be made so as to make available every possible airplane engine for use in the war effort.

From December 1943 until the Farm Show Building was released in February 1946, many thousands of airplane engines were completely overhauled and shipped directly to fighting fronts all over the world. The results of this expeditious action and cooperation by private and commercial activities is now a matter of record.

It is the desire of this Command to express appreciation for he Army Air Forces as a whole and for the Middletown Air Technical Service Command in particular for the fine spirit of cooperation which was shown during all phases of this activity.

Very truly yours,

DAVID R. STINSON
Colonel, Air Corps
Commanding
